We may not all be able to celebrate Thanksgiving the same way as in previous years, but we all can enjoy a delicious and healthy meal! Whether you are having only your household together or a celebrating through Zoom, you can still enjoy the company and even indulge in a flavorful meal.

Here are some favorite Thanksgiving dishes that are healthy and delicious:

Turkey

Turkey is packed with nutrition and is usually the centerpiece of the Thanksgiving meal. It is lower in fat and calories than beef and has a lot of protein, which helps you build your muscles and feel full. Turkey also contains selenium, which is an antioxidant and plays a role in metabolism. Turkey is full of B vitamins, such as niacin and B6. These two vitamins help turn the food you eat into energy and build your immunity.

Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, and Pumpkin

You can mash, roast, boil, or bake sweet potatoes, carrots, and pumpkin! They are excellent sources of vitamins A and C. You can add some nutmeg and cinnamon for flavor and even more nutrition.

Dark Leafy Vegetables

Dark leafy greens, such as collard greens, turnip greens, kale, mustard greens, and spinach, are powerhouses full of nutrition. These vegetables contain vitamins A, C, and K. They also are good sources of calcium, which plays a role in keeping your bones, teeth, and muscles strong, and folate, which promotes brain and overall health.

Green Beans

Green beans provide a great source of vitamins C and K. They also are high in fiber.

Cranberries

Raw cranberries are bitter, and canned cranberry sauce is high in sugar. One way to get the great benefits of cranberries is to make the cranberry sauce yourself. Reduce the amount of sugar or honey used, and increase the amount of water. Following these simple steps will help you get the benefits of fiber, antioxidants, and vitamin C that cranberries offer.

No matter how you are spending your Thanksgiving holiday, remember that gratitude can positively impact your health and that of your loved ones. Take some time to consider all that you appreciate in life and give thanks. You’ll be so glad you did.
